Neill Malcolm
My Great grandfather, Neill Malcolm, b.1827 emigrated to New Zealand from London in 1851. He was a barrister of Inner Temple London, his father, John, was also called to the bar there but does not appear to have practiced in England. John's record states he was "of Jamaica" Neill's mother was Sarah Wingfield. Neill married Emilie Monson Wilton in 1848. They had one daughter when they arrived in New Zealand and three more were born in Auckland. Originally Neill had intended to practice law here but due to certain events took up farming on Great Barrier Island some 50 miles out from Auckland. The rest of their 13 children were born on the Island my grandfather, Kenneth, being one of the last. In later life Emilie was to write the story of their life there. Their 2nd daughter, Fanny (Osbourne), became a well known painter of flowers and when she married she too lived on the Island and also had 13 children.I am trying to link up Neil with his Scottish roots and wondered if anyone can help me? Regards,Sandra.
